RTT - Top Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is RTT and where does it come from?
RTT is a revolutionary and relatively new therapy that combines the most beneficial elements of Hypnotherapy, NLP, Psychotherapy and CBT developed by the highly and internationally acclaimed Marisa Peer.
How does it work?
Hypnosis is not magic - it’s science! It works by creating a burst of brain waves that are the same as when you’re in REM during sleep. That’s what allows you to access the subconscious mind. You are in charge the whole of the session and you cannot be taken into hypnosis against your will or during hypnosis be made to do anything against your will. It is your experience.. It’s very easy and anyone can do it, you’ll see for yourself when you do it too!
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
You can. Everyone can. As long as you wish to enter hypnosis, you will. It's an easy, enjoyable and thoroughly relaxing process.
Is hypnosis safe?
The routines we use are the safest in the world. You enter hypnosis via a deep relaxation technique and your exit is safe, controlled and relaxed at all times.
Can I get ‘stuck’?
No! That’s an old wife’s tale. You have complete control the whole time. You can talk, move your body, get a tissue, even get up and walk about. If your RTT session is via Zoom and it becomes disconnected you may drift into sleep if you’re really relaxed, but eventually you’ll notice that you’re not hearing my voice and open your eyes and be able to respond to my call back.
What does it feel like?
The experience feels different for each person. Some people feel a floating sensation, some do not. Others may feel sleepy, some do not. Most people feel relaxed and at ease. What’s most important is to know that how you feel isn’t an indicator of how effective it is. Regardless of what it feels like - it’s working. I promise.
Will I be asleep?
No. You are awake and alert, aware of everything that is happening throughout the session.
What if I don’t go ‘deep’ enough?
Don’t worry about how deep you go. I want you to forget all about that. It's really not important. The depth of trance is not linked to results at all. So don’t get stuck on “Am I deep enough?” Just tell yourself the truth “This is working” and it will absolutely work. Just know that it is effective.
How can it work in just one session?
Hypnosis allows direct access to the subconscious mind to discover the reasons we do what we do and react the way that we react. The source of our issues are typically based on an outdated age appropriate understandings from when we were much younger. When you're able to observe these outdated and unwanted beliefs from a non-judgmental perspective, it's relatively easy to let them go and move onto re-wiring new beliefs that are more beneficial. Occasionally it can take more than one session to fully resolve your issue but as a rule most issues only take one session. Please note; long-term more complex conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, weight issues, smoking and other addictive habits may take more than 1 session.
How effective is RTT?
It is important that you realise that you need to be fully committed to engaging with RTT throughout the whole process and that you will need to listen to your audio recording post session for 21 days to benefit fully. Not being fully on-board and committed to the process has the ability to seriously affect the outcome.
How long does it take?
Each RTT session lasts between 90 minutes to 2.5 hours. For that reason, I ask that you to block off a full 3 hours in your calendar to make sure you’re not rushed and you allow yourself the time you need.
What is involved during our initial consultation?
During your initial consultation with me you will get the opportunity to discuss your reason for wanting RTT and through discussion will identify the most pressing issues that you would like to address in your RTT session. Your consultation will also allow you the opportunity to provide important background information to enable me to carefully tailor your session in order for us to achieve the optimal long-lasting results that you desire.
What should I expect from my session ?
As the client you will work alongside me uncovering the meaning and interpretation of events and permanently change them. During the session RTT draws out unfinished business, meaning it is a technique for addressing the negative beliefs that you have been holding onto for many years and it offers a fast and incredibly effective way to permanently overcome your issues.
What if I uncover something that I don’t wish to share?
You are in complete control during hypnosis and if you don't wish to share something, you won't. It's ok to keep details to yourself, I can still help you as long as you can tell me how it affects you (how they make you feel).
How does a session work via zoom?
It works in exactly the same way as if I was in the room with you. Zoom allows us the opportunity to have visual contact throughout the whole session.
What if I think I already know the reasons behind my issue?
What makes RTT amazing is that even if you think you know the reason, you see it in a COMPLETELY new way. That’s what allows you to change the meaning and ultimately, change your beliefs. For many clients they go back to scenes that are totally different to what they expected. Just relax and trust that your subconscious mind will show you exactly what you need to see.
What if I go back to scenes that are painful or scary?
If you go back to scenes from your life that are related to things like sexual or physical abuse, or other trauma, it’s important to remember that you are not reliving that scene, you are simply reviewing it and that you are safe. Sometimes you may not visualise the scenes but get a sense of an event or a feeling related to an event. Everyone is different and experiences RTT in a different way. I will support you and create a safe space for you to express your emotions and heal - you’ll be OK.
When will I start to see changes?
It is important to remember that every person is different and that people will experience hypnotherapy in different ways.
Typically there are 3 outcomes.
1. Instant – where you feel an immediate and positive shift in your condition right away. You will feel and observe immediate changes in your physiology, thoughts and behaviours right in the session.
2. Cumulative – Change occurs gradually over the 21 days as you listen to your recording and in some instances it can take even longer. It may not be completely apparent at first. This very much depends upon the issue addressed during our session. Often there are many subtle changes that you may not link to our session and only when you are faced with instances where you may previously have struggled will it become apparent that a shift has occurred. Typically you will also experience other positive shifts in your thinking such as confidence, motivation, clarity etc.
3. Retroactive – Where change occurs gradually, and often you may not be aware of the changes as they have occurred progressively and not right away. It is only when you look back some time later, weeks or even months, and remember your condition before the session that you realise that a change has occurred. It can be very subtle.
I always suggest to my clients that they keep a diary to enable them to monitor and track their progress.
What if I need or want another session?
RTT is designed to give you a powerful breakthrough and create big changes in your life. Some clients may need more than one RTT session on a particular issue, depending on how complex and layered the issue is.
Am I assured confidentiality?
Absolutely. All clients are assured of confidentiality about any disclosed material, in accordance with professional codes of ethics. I will not contact other practitioners or doctors who you may be seeing without your express written permission.
What if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?
I ask that in all instances that you give at least 48 hours notice to either change or cancel your appointment in order to receive a full refund or to enable me to reschedule your appointment at a more convenient time.
